The Guardian: West rethinks Belarus policy, pressure pushes it towards Moscow

After five years of isolation, we have not achieved our stated goals, say European diplomats

EU leaders are discussing the possibility of changing their foreign policy towards Belarus, writes the British newspaper The Guardian, citing European diplomats.

According to the newspaper, preliminary discussions are underway in Brussels on the effectiveness of isolating Minsk.

„Maximum pressure on Belarus has not yielded results. After five years of isolation, we have not achieved our stated goals. Belarus has moved closer to Russia“, said an EU diplomat.

He also noted that „the West's rapprochement with Lukashenko has its limits“.
