Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet with his counterparts from Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Oleg Bartsits and Akhsar Dzhioev, in Sochi on Wednesday. Separate bilateral talks and a trilateral meeting are planned.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, the separate talks will address current issues in bilateral relations, as well as sign updated Russian-Abkhazian and Russian-South Ossetian plans for inter-ministerial consultations for 2026-2027.
“At the trilateral meeting, the ministers will discuss foreign policy issues of mutual interest, including interaction within the framework of international discussions on security and stability in the Caucasus,“ the diplomat added.
In an announcement of the meetings in Sochi, the Abkhazian Foreign Ministry noted that the foreign ministers will exchange notes on current bilateral and regional issues.
During a meeting with South Ossetian President Alan Gagloev, South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dzhioev stressed that the meeting in Sochi will be an important step in strengthening bilateral relations and discussion of pressing issues of cooperation.
The previous meeting in this format was held on October 4, 2024 in Moscow.
