Strengthening EU defense and the situation in Ukraine are the topics that will be leading today's informal meeting of European leaders in Copenhagen - the country holding the rotating EU presidency, BNR reported.
Building a wall of drones will be the focus of the leaders' talks. Russia's violation of the airspace of Poland and Romania - and possibly Denmark - makes these discussions imperative, according to diplomatic sources in Brussels. This comes after the visit of Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to the frontline member states, including Bulgaria.
The topic will be part of the general discussions on strengthening EU defense. The use of Russian frozen assets for the benefit of Ukraine will also be the subject of debate, with no concrete decisions expected.
Replacing unanimity with qualified majority in foreign policy decision-making will also be on the agenda, especially in the context of enlargement and the Hungarian veto on opening negotiations with Ukraine.
According to a diplomatic source, an agreement on the issue is not entirely impossible, as no European leader has said "no" to the possibility of such a replacement. However, they warn that the outcome is far from guaranteed.
