The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has discussed with Donald Trump the US president's peace plan to end the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported, citing a statement from the emir's office in Doha, BTA reported.

The emir confirmed Qatar's support for peace efforts and expressed confidence that the countries behind the plan can contribute to a just resolution to the conflict, which guarantees security and stability in the region. He added that at the same time, the rights of the Palestinians must be protected.

Israel launched its offensive in the Gaza Strip after the unprecedented cross-border attack by "Hamas" against Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. At that time, according to Israeli data, about 1,200 people were killed and 251 hostages were taken captive in the strip.

In the retaliatory Israeli offensive in the coastal territory, more than 65,000 people died, according to information from the Hamas Health Ministry.
