Swedish human rights activist Greta Thunberg claims that Israeli authorities are keeping her in a bedbug-infested cell and giving her insufficient food and water. This was reported by the British newspaper The Guardian, citing the activist's correspondence with a Swedish official.
„She reported dehydration. She was not given enough water and food. She also said she had a rash that she suspected was caused by bedbugs,” said an email written by a Swedish Foreign Ministry official who visited the human rights activist in her detention cell.
According to the official, another activist detained by Israel reported that Thunberg had been photographed while being forced to hold certain flags. No description of the flags was provided.
The “Sumud” flotilla (which means “steadfastness” in Arabic) set sail from the coast of Tunisia for the Gaza Strip in mid-September. Israel intercepted all the vessels. In total, the flotilla included more than 40 vessels belonging to various countries, one of which was carrying Greta Thunberg.
