Australian police question man who opened fire indiscriminately in Sydney

60-year-old attacker fired up to 50 shots from apartment; authorities rule out terrorist motive

Australian police will today question the man detained for the shooting from a Sydney apartment window that injured 20 people, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.

Investigators are trying to establish the motives for the attack, ruling out the version of a terrorist attack.

According to initial data, the 60-year-old man fired up to 50 shots with a 30-millimeter rifle in the suburb of Croydon Park.

“It is amazing that there were no deaths“,
Acting Superintendent of Police Stephen Parry said at a press conference.

He stressed that the suspect was not linked to terrorist or criminal groups, and law enforcement agencies have no evidence that the man suffered from mental illness.

According to in Paris, 20 people were hospitalized after the incident, one of whom is scheduled to undergo surgery.
A spokesman for the emergency services said that medics treated another 14 people at the scene who were in shock or had minor injuries.

A medical assessment of the detainee's physical and mental condition was carried out overnight and this morning.
According to doctors, he is in stable condition and can be returned to custody for questioning.
