Opposition parties in France have called on President Emmanuel Macron to call early parliamentary elections or resign, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

"This joke has gone on too long, the farce must end", said Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right National Rally party.

"The countdown has begun. Macron must go", called Mathilde Pannot, member of the far-left France Insubordinate party.

David Linard, MP from the conservative "Republicans" party also joined the calls for the French president to resign. And the party's leader and outgoing interior minister Bruno Retayo, who criticized the composition of the new government yesterday, said today that "the ball is already in Macron's court and that he must speak soon."

"If there is a deadlock, then we will go back to the polls, but I think there are other ways before we get there," Retayo told French television station TF1.

To explain his failure to reach a compromise with rival parties in parliament, Sébastien Le Corneille blamed the "ego" of opposition politicians, who have stuck strictly to their programs, while the minority coalition parties have focused on their own ambitions for the presidency. Bruno Rötayo is believed to be considering running for president, Reuters reports.
