Former French Interior Minister Edouard Philippe said on Monday that he supports holding early presidential elections amid the country's ongoing political crisis, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

Philippe, once a close ally of President Emmanuel Macron, said in an interview with RTE radio that he favors early elections following the resignation of Prime Minister Sebastien Le Corneille, who resigned less than a month after taking office.

Le Corneille's government was rejected not only by Macron's opponents, but also by his political allies, Reuters notes.

The leader of the far-right "National Rally" party Jordan Bardella told BFM TV that he is in favor of dissolving parliament, followed by early parliamentary or presidential elections.
