A former civilian employee at a US military base was sentenced to nearly six years in prison for revealing confidential information about the Russian invasion of Ukraine on a foreign dating site in 2022, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
64-year-old David Franklin Slater, a former army lieutenant colonel, pleaded guilty in July. A federal court in Nebraska sentenced him to 70 months in prison and a $25,000 fine.
This civilian Air Force employee, assigned to Offutt Base in Nebraska, home to the Strategic Nuclear Weapons Command, was arrested in 2024.
He is accused of passing classified information between February and April 2022 "via chat on a foreign dating site to his accomplice, who claimed to be a woman living in Ukraine." The documents concerned "Russia's military objectives and capabilities related to the invasion of Ukraine."
According to the file, she referred to him in her messages as "her secret lover informant," AFP noted.
