The European Parliament rejected the vote of no confidence against the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, submitted by the "Patriots for Europe" group, BTA reported.

378 MEPs voted to reject the vote, 179 voted "for", and 37 abstained.

A majority of 2/3 of the votes cast was required for the vote to be successful.

The reasons for the submitted vote of no confidence against the EC were incorrectly conducted green policies, policies in the field of competitiveness, economy and migration.

"Patriots for Europe" also point out the violation of the requirement for transparency in decision-making and the excess of powers by the EC, as well as criticizing the commission for concluding trade agreements with Mercosur and the US.

The EC presented the agreement with the South American bloc Mercosur (uniting Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) for ratification by EU member states in September.

Negotiations between the EU and Mercosur ended in December 2024 after more than 25 years.

In July, Washington and Brussels reached a trade agreement that provides for a 15 percent tariff on most European goods exported to the US, including pharmaceuticals and cars. Under the agreement, the EU has committed to purchasing energy worth $750 billion and to investing an additional $600 billion in the US over three years.

During discussions on the no-confidence vote against von der Leyen, tabled by the "Patriots for Europe" group leader Jordan Bardella on Monday sharply criticized the EC President, saying that she is leading Europe "towards nothing".

According to Bardella, von der Leyen is to blame for excessive regulation in the EU and cuts in agricultural subsidies. He also condemned the trade agreements with Mercosur and the US, describing the deal with Donald Trump as "commercial capitulation".

A second no-confidence vote against Ursula von der Leyen, tabled by the Left group in the EP, will be voted on today.
