Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that his American counterpart Donald Trump has "done a lot for peace", citing the ceasefire in the Middle East as an example, but added that it is not his job to decide whether Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize or not, TASS reported, BTA reported. "It is not my job to judge whether the current US president is worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize or not - I don't know. But in reality he is doing a lot to resolve complex, years-long, even decades-long crises", the Russian leader said. Putin also commented on Trump's plan for Gaza, saying that if successful, it would be "nothing less than a historic event". "We support American initiatives to end the war in Gaza," the Russian president said, speaking to reporters during his visit to Tajikistan. Putin said he could receive a request for Russia to participate in the peace process, given that the country has built trusting relations with Arab countries, especially with the Palestinians. The Russian president also said Trump was sincere in his desire to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, adding that Moscow and Washington continue to adhere to the positions agreed upon at the meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, held on August 15. Russia and the United States understand how to resolve the conflict in Ukraine peacefully, but this is a complex issue, Putin said. "We did not fully disclose what was discussed in Anchorage. "We only talked about the fact that there is a general understanding on the part of both the United States and the Russian Federation about where we need to move and what we need to strive for in order to end this conflict," he noted. The Russian head of state also indicated that Russia's response to the possible transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Kiev would be to strengthen air defense systems. Putin noted that Moscow is already engaged in a nuclear race with major world powers, including the United States, and added that some countries are already considering testing nuclear weapons, and if they do, Moscow will also be ready for such actions, Reuters reported.
