Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today that he is committed to achieving peace, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

In his address to parliament together with US President Donald Trump, Netanyahu thanked the US leader for his help in brokering the first phase of the Gaza agreement, which allowed the release of all living hostages from the strip.

Israel's enemies now "understand that the attack on Israel on October 7 was a catastrophic mistake", he said, quoted by DPA.

According to him, it was Trump's "unambiguous support for Israel" that helped Israel take the necessary steps to stop the war. He said that "peace through strength" was the key principle on the matter.

Netanyahu added that he intended to present Trump with Israel's highest state award, and he would be the first non-Israeli recipient of it. The Israeli prime minister also described Trump as "the best friend Israel has ever had in the White House," Agence France-Presse reported.

"Donald Trump is the best friend the state of Israel has ever had in the White House," Netanyahu said. "No American president has done more for Israel" than Trump and none of his predecessors "comes close to him, there is no competition," he added.

The Israeli parliament session took place just hours after the release of the last remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza.
