Germany to deploy its "Eurofighter" fighter jets at the Polish military base in Malbork to better protect NATO's eastern members, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
"We will contribute to the protection of the eastern flank with patrol flights", Pistorius said on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.
"This makes us even more active, present and visible on the alliance's eastern border", he added.
NATO launched a new mission in September to better protect the airspace of its eastern European members after a series of airspace violations by Russia.
The fighter jets will increase Germany's contribution to the mission called "Eastern Guard"
"When (Russian President Vladimir) Putin tests our borders, be it in Poland, "Whether in Estonia or elsewhere, we respond decisively, quickly and effectively," Pistorius said.
