The caretaker defense minister of the Netherlands, Ruben Brekelmans, hopes that “pressure on Russia will increase” if US President Donald Trump actually resumes talks with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. This was reported by the Dutch National News Agency ANP, quoted by BTA.

The American president announced this meeting on Thursday on his social platform "Truth Social".

Brekelmans calls Trump's increase in pressure on Putin "a good thing". "In recent weeks and months, we have seen that Putin is ready to negotiate, but not to make serious concessions," the minister from the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy said before the cabinet meeting. "He continues his terror in Ukraine every day and in my opinion this must stop as soon as possible," Brekelmans added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin convened the country's Security Council last night in connection with his telephone conversation with his American counterpart Donald Trump, Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said today, quoted by TASS, BTA reported.

Putin presented the Security Council members with detailed information about the content of his conversation with Trump, Ushakov told journalists.

This was the eighth telephone conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States since the beginning of the year. The exchange of views, which lasted two and a half hours, was one of the longest telephone consultations between Putin and Trump this year, TASS notes.

Ushakov described the conversation as meaningful, extremely frank and confidential. According to the Kremlin's foreign policy adviser, Moscow and Washington "will not delay" and will begin preparations for a new bilateral summit, which could take place in Budapest. This process will begin in the coming days with a telephone conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his American counterpart Marco Rubio, Ushakov specified. Yesterday, Trump indicated that he would meet with Putin in the foreseeable future in the Hungarian capital. Later, the American president clarified that this could happen in the next two weeks.
