US President Donald Trump announced the release from prison of George Santos (Republican of New York), a member of the US House of Representatives, expelled in 2023.
“I just signed an executive order to commute the sentence, which immediately released George Santos from prison“, the American leader wrote on Truth Social.
In April, Santos was sentenced to 87 months in prison on charges of fraud and identity theft.
In August 2024, the former congressman pleaded guilty to using campaign funds for personal use. He also provided false information to Congress about his income.
