„The West Bank will not be annexed by Israel“, said US Vice President J.D. Vance today, after the Israeli parliament held a preliminary vote on two bills aimed at expanding Israeli sovereignty over the territory. The information was disseminated by Agence France-Presse, BTA reports.
Vance reacted sharply to the actions of the Israeli MPs, commenting:
„If this was a political move, it was extremely stupid. I take it personally as an insult.“
The US vice president stressed that the position of President Donald Trump's administration remains unchanged:
„The government's policy is clear - the West Bank will not be annexed from Israel. That will continue to be our line of conduct.“
The remarks came at the end of Vance's visit to Israel, where he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In Tel Aviv, the vice president expressed optimism about reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, stressing that his talks with Israeli leaders had been “constructive and focused on stabilizing the region“.
