Turkey is ready to host a summit between the United States and Russia as soon as a new one is scheduled, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, News.bg reports.

After his tour of the Persian Gulf countries, Erdogan stressed that Ankara maintains “good relations” with Washington and Moscow and has “earned the trust of both sides“.

“This gives us an advantage on the path to peace and we are determined to use it for the benefit of humanity“, he added.

The president expressed regret that the leaders of the United States and Russia - Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin - will not meet in Budapest, and pointed out how important it is to end the conflict in Ukraine.

“The importance of Turkey or Istanbul in achieving a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine has once again become obvious. We are ready to host negotiations at any time“, Erdogan assured.

The cancellation of the meeting was followed by another Russian attack on Ukraine and new US sanctions on the Russian oil sector. In response, Putin said that “no self-respecting country“ would succumb to such pressure.
