The Ukrainian army has regained control of the village of Torske, which is important for the defense of the city of Lyman, the Ukrainian General Staff reported on Telegram, quoted by DPA, writes BTA.

Up to 100 Russian soldiers were killed and others were captured during the fighting, the Ukrainian military added.

The information cannot yet be confirmed by an independent source, DPA notes.

Torske is a village in the northern part of the Donetsk region. Before the war, over 1,000 people lived there, but now it is almost completely destroyed.

Shortly after the start of the war, the village was captured by Russian troops, and then the Ukrainians regained control of it during their offensive in 2022. It was recently retaken by the Russians.

Torsk is important because of its location on a hill on the banks of the Zherebets River. This river forms a natural barrier and hinders the advance of troops towards Liman, just 13 kilometers to the west, and towards the agglomeration around Slavyansk and Kramatorsk beyond it, which the Russian army has so far failed to capture, DPA notes.
