Syrian government forces clashed with Kurdish militias in the Deir ez-Zor province in the eastern part of the country, Syrian TV reported.
Kurdish fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) tried to penetrate the Mihkan and al-Kishma districts, which are under the protection of the government army. However, the troops repelled their attacks and retained control of their positions. The firefight between the two sides lasted for several hours.
For its part, the SDF command claims that the town of Abu Hammam on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River was under fire from Damascus-backed groups. Kurdish fighters returned fire and struck the attackers' positions. The statement said an investigation into the incident was underway.
On October 21, the SDF Military Committee met with a government delegation in the city of Tabqa on the Euphrates River to discuss tensions along the lines of contact in the provinces of Aleppo, Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor. The parties agreed on measures to prevent further escalation.
On October 7, SDF Commander Mazloum Abdi held talks in Damascus with Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa and the head of US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper. The discussion focused on the implementation of the agreement between the Kurds and the Syrian government, signed on March 10 and providing for the integration of Kurdish fighters into the government army.
