A doll resembling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was spotted hanging from a construction crane in northeastern Turkey, sparking outrage in Israel, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Photos published by the pro-government newspaper "Yeni Şafak" show a figure hanging from a crane in the Black Sea city of Trabzon. Above it is a poster that reads: "Death penalty for Netanyahu".
It is not clear who is behind this action.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry wrote in "Ex" that the doll was created by a Turkish scientist who was assisted "by a state-owned company".
""The Turkish authorities have not renounced this disgraceful behavior", the publication continues. "In Erdogan's Turkey, hatred and anti-Semitism are not condemned. They are celebrated."
A spokeswoman for the ministry in Jerusalem noted only that the University of Trabzon is state-owned. There has been no immediate reaction from Turkey.
Relations between Turkey and Israel, which have been tense for years, have deteriorated further since the massacre carried out by the Palestinian militia "Hamas" on October 7, 2023, DPA recalls. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accuses Netanyahu of committing "genocide" in Gaza in the retaliatory military campaign.
