Czech President Petr Pavel on Monday tasked the leader of the populist ANO party, Andrej Babis, with leading negotiations to form a new government, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Since the October 3-4 elections, the ANO party has been holding talks with the right-wing Eurosceptic party „Motorists for Their Own“ and the far-right, Eurosceptic and anti-NATO party „Freedom and Direct Democracy“. Together they would have 108 seats in the 200-seat lower house of the Czech parliament.
Today's appointment is seen as the next step towards the return to power of billionaire and former prime minister Babis, Reuters notes.
