Elon Musk has launched a Wikipedia alternative, Grokipedia, NBC News reported.
Musk says Grokipedia is powered by artificial intelligence and designed to be closer to his conservative political views.
Grokipedia differs from Wikipedia in at least one key way: it has no clear human authors. While volunteers write and edit Wikipedia, often anonymously, Musk says Grokipedia articles are "fact-checked" by Grok, an artificial intelligence chatbot from Musk's startup xAI. Visitors to Grokipedia cannot make edits, although they can suggest them through a form to report incorrect information.
For its part, Wikipedia said it was in the process of understanding how Grokipedia works. "Wikipedia's knowledge is - and always will be - human. "Through open collaboration and consensus, people of all backgrounds build a neutral, living record of human understanding - one that reflects our diversity and collective curiosity. This human-generated knowledge is what AI companies rely on to generate content, even though Grokipedia needs Wikipedia to exist," it said in a statement.
It also added that experiments with alternative versions of Wikipedia have been done before, but this has not hindered its work.
