China hopes that the US will abide by its commitment to a moratorium on nuclear tests and its obligations under the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

In response to a question about the resumption of nuclear tests by US President Donald Trump, Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said that China hopes that Washington will not disrupt the global strategic balance and stability.

The Chinese Ministry of Defense, for its part, said that Beijing maintains an open position on the development of military relations with the US.

China hopes that Washington will work with China to jointly build equal, fair, peaceful and stable military relations, Defense Ministry spokesman Zhang said at a press conference Xiaogan.

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that it would be appropriate for his country to test nuclear weapons to keep up with other nuclear powers, Reuters reported.

The locations where such tests would be carried out would be determined later, he told reporters on board his plane before departing from South Korea, where he met with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

Earlier today, the US president announced that he had ordered the Pentagon to immediately begin testing nuclear weapons. He did not give details. Trump made the statement before his meeting with the leader of China, which is also a nuclear power.
