Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized Germany for its ignorance of "genocide," famine, and Israeli attacks in Gaza, reports "Reuters".

This happened at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Ankara.

Erdogan said that Israel has nuclear and other weapons, which it uses in Gaza and threatens it. He noted that the Palestinian group "Hamas" has none of them. Erdogan pointed out that Israel has attacked Gaza again in recent days despite the ceasefire in the enclave.

"Doesn't Germany see this?", the Turkish leader asked in bewilderment, adding that it is the humanitarian duty of Turkey, Germany and other countries to end the famine and massacres in Gaza.

At the press conference, the German Chancellor said that he sees Turkey as a close partner of the European Union and wants to develop bilateral economic relations with it, including in the transport sector.

"I personally and the German government see Turkey as a close partner of the European Union. We want to continue to smooth the path to Europe," he stressed on his first visit to the country.

Merz specified that the two discussed migration and wanted to achieve further progress on the repatriation of those who have been denied asylum.
