Three people were injured in an explosion and subsequent fire at the Navajo refinery, considered the largest in New Mexico, according to local police and HF Sinclair, the company that owns the refinery.
The Artesia Police Department reported on social media that it received a report of an explosion at the refinery on October 31. According to police, the explosion resulted in “dense smoke“ that spread to part of the city. Emergency services later arrived at the scene and "successfully contained the emergency situation," HF Sinclair spokeswoman Corinne Smith told the Albuquerque Journal that "three people were taken from the facility for medical treatment" following the explosion and fire. The refinery processes 100,000 barrels of oil per day, making it the largest in New Mexico. The refinery supplies oil to the southwestern United States.
