Authorities in Latvia have arrested a citizen of an EU and NATO member state on suspicion of spying for Russia, DPA reports, BTA reports.
According to a statement from the Latvian State Security Service, the person is accused of collecting information about Latvia's defense sector, which was passed on to the Russian military intelligence agency GRU.
Particular attention was paid to the country's private aviation infrastructure and the presence of NATO military personnel in Latvia.
Authorities are not disclosing the identity or gender of the suspect. The person remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
