An eleven-year-old child was injured last night in a shooting in Brussels, the Belga news agency reported today, BTA reported.
The child, who was sleeping during the incident, was hit by pieces of glass from the window of his home, which was hit by bullets. The child has minor injuries and received medical attention.
Police specialists also arrived at the scene to provide psychological support to the child and his family, Belga writes.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight. Several shots were fired on the street, hitting a building and several parked cars. Investigators found about 15 shell casings at the scene.
According to initial reports, two suspects fled on scooters after the shooting. The prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into attempted murder, DPA reported.
In recent months, Brussels has seen a spate of gun violence linked to drug trafficking, the agency recalled.
