Eight coal mines in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine were left without power after a Russian attack, the country's Ministry of Energy announced. At the time of the attack, 2,595 miners were underground, the BBC reported.
According to preliminary data, there were no deaths or injuries. Rescue teams and mine staff immediately began an operation to bring people to the surface. The evacuation continues, the Ukrainian ministry specifies.
The attack is part of a series of Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure in recent weeks, which led to power outages and serious damage in several industrial regions of the country.
