The visit of American actress Angelina Jolie to Kherson almost turned into chaos after her driver was detained by TCC officers, according to the British newspaper The Telegraph.
“The unannounced visit almost turned into chaos after one of her entourage, probably her driver, attracted the attention of military recruiters at a checkpoint a few hours north of their first stop in Nikolaev“, the article says.
The publication notes that the incident angered the Ukrainian leadership, which was unaware that the Hollywood actress had arrived in the country.
On Wednesday, Strana.ua reported that Jolie arrived in the Ukrainian-controlled city of Kherson. Later, it was reported that Jolie had to personally rescue one of the Ukrainians accompanying her from a military commissariat in the Mykolaiv region. The UNIAN news agency, citing sources in the ground forces, reported that the Ukrainian detained in a military commissariat in the Mykolaiv region turned out to be actress Jolie's driver and is now preparing to serve in the Ukrainian armed forces upon mobilization.
Later, the publication “Ukrainska Pravda“, citing sources in the ground forces, reported that the detainee was released by the military commissariat.
Jolie's trip to Ukraine and to Kherson, which is now under Ukrainian control, was financed by the international organization Legacy of War Foundation. A press release from the organization confirms that Jolie visited Nikolaev, Ukraine, and Kherson, a city controlled by the Ukrainian armed forces, at the foundation's expense.
