A suspicious package was delivered to the US military base “Andrews“ in Maryland, which led to the illness of several people and the imposition of medical care for some of them, reported “Reuters“ and CNN, reports News.bg.
According to a statement from the Joint Air Force Base, the building where the package was opened was evacuated as a precaution. Several people were transported to the “Malcolm Grove“ Medical Center at the base.
“As a precautionary measure, the building and its adjacent building were evacuated and the area was cordoned off,“ the official statement said.
First responders on the scene determined there was no immediate threat and referred the case to the Office of Special Investigations. The incident is currently under investigation.
Two sources familiar with the investigation said the package contained an unknown white powder. Initial field tests did not reveal anything dangerous, but checks are ongoing.
