China is outraged by the holding of a pro-Taiwan conference in the European Parliament building

We express strong protest and serious objections to the European side, the statement of the Beijing diplomatic mission said

China has criticized the European Union for the visit of supporters of Taiwan independence to the European Parliament building and the holding of a conference there, a statement published on the website of the Chinese foreign policy mission to the EU said.

„The anti-China organization Inter-Parliamentary Alliance for China held its annual meeting in the European Parliament building. Despite strong protests from China, the European Parliament allowed Vice President Xiao Meiqing and other leading members of the Taiwan independence movement to enter the building to participate in the annual meeting and carry out separatist activities. "China expresses strong indignation, resolute protest and raises serious objections to the European side," the statement said.

Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of the Kuomintang led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) retreated to the island after losing the Chinese Civil War. Beijing considers Taiwan to be one of China's provinces.
