Turkey has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and 36 other suspects on charges of "genocide" in the Gaza Strip, TRT World reports.

The Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office said on Friday it had issued arrest warrants for 37 suspects, including Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and Israeli Navy Commander David Saar Salama, on charges of "genocide" in Gaza.

Israel has not yet fulfilled its obligations to provide aid to Gaza, while the Palestinian side has taken a constructive approach, including efforts to release hostages and return bodies, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was quoted as saying by the Anadolu Agency on Friday.

At a joint press conference with his Romanian counterpart Oana Toiu, Fidan stressed that the continuation of the ceasefire in Gaza was crucial. He described the situation as "fragile" because the Israeli administration and Prime Minister Netanyahu do not believe in the main goals.

Hamas welcomed the arrest warrants, saying that the move "confirms the noble positions of the Turkish people and its leadership".

It is recalled that last November the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Galant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its war on the enclave.

Last week, Netanyahu vowed to eliminate "Hamas", "Hezbollah" and Yemen's Houthis.
