The Japan Meteorological Agency reported a strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake registered off the country's northern coast today, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
The quake was felt in Iwate prefecture and had a depth of 10 kilometers below the sea surface.
As a result of the event, authorities issued a tsunami warning, urging residents to move away from coastal areas, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported. The wave is expected to reach approximately one meter in height.
