Russian forces launched a massive attack on Kiev in the early hours of today, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko, was quoted by Reuters as saying. The rumble of air defenses could be heard in the city, and a series of explosions were also reported.
Klitschko said falling debris hit a five-story apartment building in the Dnipro district, on the east side of the Dnieper River. A fire also broke out in a high-rise apartment building in the Podolsk district, on the other bank of the river.
Two people were injured in the Dnipro district. One of them was taken to the hospital, Klitschko said on Telegram, quoted by Ukrinform.
Debris fell on the territory of a school in the Darnytsia district, he added.
The mayor has requested that emergency teams be sent to several areas of the city.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian missiles were aimed at Kiev and several other areas.
