German and French law enforcement agencies have carried out a joint operation that neutralized a criminal group suspected of illegally transporting nearly 900 people across Europe between 2021 and 2023, authorities said, quoted by “Reuters“, BTA reports.

Firearms and significant amounts of cash were confiscated during the operation. Two suspects were arrested in Germany and four more in France, Europol said.

According to the EU's police cooperation office, the group had organised a regular migrant smuggling route from Turkey via Serbia and Austria to Germany and France.

Europol added that the operation began yesterday and is part of ongoing efforts to curb cross-border criminal networks in Europe.
