Airbus Chairman Rene Obermann has called on European countries to acquire tactical nuclear weapons in response to the threat posed by Russian Iskander missiles stationed in Kaliningrad, which can carry nuclear warheads, Reuters quoted him as saying.

"Our Achilles heel seems to be what Russia is threatening us with quite publicly: these are more than 500 tactical nuclear warheads on Iskander 26 missiles stationed right on our doorstep in Kaliningrad, in addition to the newly deployed ones in Belarus," Obermann noted at the Berlin Security Conference on Wednesday.

"Germany, France, Britain and other willing European member states should agree on a common and phased nuclear deterrence program, including largely at the tactical level. I think that would be a huge sign of deterrence."
