Iran's President: We have to move the capital, we have no choice

The reason for this is significant water supply problems, which, combined with the growing urban population, could create a humanitarian catastrophe

Iran must move its capital from Tehran, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said at a public meeting in Qazvin province, IRNA reported.

“Today's reality is that we no longer have a choice; moving the capital is a necessity,” he said.

According to the head of state, the reason for this is significant water supply problems, which, combined with the growing urban population, could create a humanitarian catastrophe.

In March, Iranian authorities faced a serious water crisis in four provinces - Razavi Khorasan, Yazd, Isfahan and Tehran - due to years of drought in these areas.

The main problem facing the Iranian government in these regions is the drying up of rivers, swamps, and dams, as well as the decreasing efficiency of the dams.
