Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin told the Italian news agency ANSA that the Holy See approves the US peace plan for Ukraine, BTA reports.
Answering a question about whether the proposal could represent a real opportunity to end the conflict, Parolin stressed that the Vatican sees it precisely in this context. “It seems to me that it does. We hope that paths for dialogue will be opened that will put an end to this tragedy“, he added.
When asked whether the plan would mean capitulation for Ukraine, the cardinal specified that discussions are forthcoming and that it is important to seek a compromise.
“The path to negotiations is complicated, but discussions are forthcoming. Europe must participate and express its position, not be excluded,“ stressed Parolin.
