Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been advised by his close advisers not to travel to Washington this week to meet with US President Donald Trump, so as not to risk conflict with him and damage the progress made during the talks in Geneva, the Financial Times writes.
According to the publication, it is currently unclear whether Trump will want Zelensky to sign the peace agreement that was discussed in Geneva.
The FT also writes that Washington must now decide how and when to present the draft peace agreement to Russia.
Earlier, the spokesman for the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said that Russia had not received official information after the talks between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Geneva.
On November 23, negotiations between the United States and Ukraine on a peace plan to end the war were held in Geneva, Switzerland. The joint statement of the parties said that the delegations had prepared an updated new framework document for ending the war in Ukraine.
According to media reports, the parties agreed on most of the 28 points and corrected a significant part, shortening the plan by 9 points. The controversial issues regarding the territories of Ukraine and NATO were left to the decision of Zelensky and Trump.
On November 24, RBC-Ukraine wrote that Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump could meet this week or next week, although the exact date was not discussed in Geneva. The White House later said that a meeting between the two leaders was not planned this week.
Earlier, Trump confirmed that he wanted Volodymyr Zelensky to agree to the US peace plan by Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 27).
On November 24, the Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the discussions, reported that the US peace plan had been reduced from 28 points to 19 after talks between the Ukrainian and US delegations in Geneva.
