Brazil's Supreme Federal Court announced today that the sentence against former President Jair Bolsonaro for organizing a coup d'état is final and not subject to appeal. The decision paves the way for his actual entry into prison to serve a 27-year prison sentence, agencies reported, BTA reports.
Seventy-year-old Bolsonaro was convicted in September of attempting to organize a coup. The Supreme Court rejected the appeal filed by his lawyers and confirmed that the decision remains in force without the possibility of further appeal.
In early August, the former president was placed under house arrest, but on Saturday he was transferred to pretrial detention due to “high risk“ from escape.
