Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan participated via videoconference in the meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing“ to achieve peace between Russia and Ukraine, the Turkish administration's press service announced, BTA reports.

Burhanettin Duran, director of the Directorate of Communications, specified that Erdogan proposed holding direct negotiations in Istanbul and that Turkey is in contact with both sides to implement them.

Photos from the event show that the president was present along with Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

Erdogan assured representatives of 35 countries participating in the meeting that Ankara will continue to make diplomatic efforts to facilitate direct dialogue that will lead to a lasting and just peace.

The Turkish leader also noted that an initial agreement to end attacks on energy and port infrastructure could create the right conditions for the subsequent achievement of a comprehensive peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
