US President Donald Trump called a reporter "stupid" after the journalist asked him a question about the attacker of the two National Guard soldiers near the White House.
“You're asking questions because you're stupid“, Trump told the reporter after a hotline with military bases on Thanksgiving.
She asked why the US president says that the Afghan-born suspect could have been admitted to the country in 2021 without adequate background checks, even though the Department of Homeland Security insists that was the case.
“Because they let them in. Are you stupid? Are you stupid? They came on a plane with thousands of other people who shouldn't be here," Trump fumed.
The US President is in Florida until Sunday, the White House previously announced.
On November 26, an Afghan-born man opened fire with a revolver at National Guard soldiers on duty a few hundred meters from the White House. Two people were injured, and 20-year-old National Guardsman Sarah Backstrom later died. Doctors are fighting for the life of her 24-year-old colleague.
US President Donald Trump called the incident "an act of terrorism". The incident will be investigated as an attack on federal law enforcement officers and on terrorism charges.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi previously said that if any of the victims are killed, which has already happened, the case will be reclassified as a felony, which would allow the death penalty to be sought for the suspect.
