Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has submitted a formal request for clemency to President Yitzhak Herzog, Reuters reported, citing the presidential office, BTA reports.
"The presidential office is aware that this is an unusual request with potentially serious consequences. After all the necessary opinions are received, the president will consider the request responsibly and in good faith," the statement said.
The prime minister's office has not yet commented on the case.
Netanyahu is accused in a corruption case and US President Donald Trump has repeatedly requested that he be pardoned. Netanyahu denies the charges and has not pleaded guilty.
