At the start of talks with the Ukrainian delegation in Miami, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that their goal is not just peace, but to preserve Ukraine as a sovereign state.
He said the goal is “not just ending“ the conflict. “We want to end the killing, the death and the suffering“, Rubio said in his opening remarks, quoted by Fox News.
“It's not just about peace agreements, it's about creating a path forward that leaves Ukraine sovereign, independent and prosperous“, he said.
According to Axios, the US intends to discuss territorial issues and security guarantees for Kiev at the meeting with the Ukrainian delegation. During talks in Geneva a week earlier, the parties reached fundamental agreements on all issues except these two, Axios notes.
