Argentine President Javier Milley presented today the F-16 fighter jets that his country bought from Denmark, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.

This happened during a ceremony at which Milley called the planes “guardian angels“ that will strengthen Argentina's armed forces.

Last year, Argentine authorities bought 24 F-16 fighter jets for about $300 million. At the time, Milley said that this was the most significant defense investment in the last 50 years in Argentina's history.

After a long wait, the first six aircraft are now in Argentina, Milley noted during the ceremony, which took place at a base in Rio Cuatro, about 600 kilometers from Buenos Aires. After the ceremony, the president boarded one of the planes, which flew at low altitude over the capital Buenos Aires before arriving at the base.

The American-made F-16 fighter jets will replace the French Mirage aircraft, which Argentina retired in 2017 after four decades of "military service."
