The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched an intensive search for three unknown suspects after a shooting at a hostel in Atteridgeville, near Pretoria, in which at least 11 people were killed and more than 25 people were injured, The Guardian reports.
According to official figures, the dead included three minors - boys aged three and 12 and a 16-year-old girl, while the remaining victims are adults, the arrivalalive portal reported.
Police announced that they had launched a search for three people and were investigating whether the killings were linked to a bar in the hostel, which may have been selling alcohol illegally.
“I can confirm that a total of 25 people were shot,“ a police spokesman said Atlenda Mate of the early morning attack in the town of Saulsville, 18 km west of Pretoria. She added that 14 people were hospitalized in the attack, in which gunmen opened fire indiscriminately.
The attack is the latest in a series of mass shootings in the country of 63 million people, which has one of the highest murder rates in the world.
