European countries are concerned that US President Donald Trump may blame them and Kiev for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, CNN reported.
European officials are reportedly concerned that if there is no progress in peace talks, Trump's patience will run out and he will withdraw from the settlement process, “blaming Ukraine and Europe for obstructing“ reaching an agreement.
An unnamed US official, for his part, told CNN that Ukraine's current situation is difficult and that it is “losing strategically important positions in the east“.
Trump previously called the Ukrainian conflict “a big problem“ in an interview with Politico, which Europe “is failing to cope“.
Earlier, “The Financial Times“, citing unnamed officials, reported that representatives of the US president “have given days“ to Volodymyr Zelensky to respond to Washington's proposed peace plan for resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
Trump will participate in a closed roundtable at the White House. The topic of the meeting is not being disclosed, according to the US president's schedule.
Trump's participation in the meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Eastern time.
