Volodymyr Zelensky is maneuvering, stating that Ukraine should hold some kind of referendum on territorial issues, said the former Prime Minister of Ukraine (2010-2014) Mykola Azarov.

„What can I say? Zelensky is trying to maneuver, he is finding some formulation, but these are all issues that are not subject to discussion. I repeat, he has never consulted the people of Ukraine, and now they are planning either elections or a referendum. Let them clarify then,” he said.

Azarov stressed that Zelensky’s statement was “completely unclear.”

He noted that the Ukrainian Constitution clearly defines how constitutional issues are resolved. “However, even on such issues, Zelensky does not distinguish between a referendum and an election.”

Zelensky said this week that the issue of territories within the framework of the peace agreement in Ukraine should be put to a referendum. He said that “the people of Ukraine will answer this question.”

“Regardless of whether it is an election or a referendum, the position of the people of Ukraine should be there,” he added.
