Next week, a group of EU countries closest to Russia will start working on concrete measures to strengthen their defense, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo announced, Bloomberg reports.

The Eastern Flank Summit will be held in Helsinki on Tuesday, December 16. The leaders of Sweden, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Bulgaria will participate.

According to Orpo, the goal of the summit is to coordinate cooperation to strengthen defense and develop a common position within the EU.

„Russia poses a threat today, tomorrow and in the long term. The greatest pressure is on the eastern outskirts of Europe,“ noted the Finnish Prime Minister.
