Hungary will no longer cooperate with the European Union regarding Russian assets, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on his social media page.

He stressed that Budapest had adhered to the principle of loyal cooperation regarding the frozen assets of the Russian Federation. However, the European Union rejected this and deprived Hungary of its rights. Therefore, Orbán noted, from now on Hungary is no longer obliged to adhere to this principle with the EU.

On December 16, the Hungarian prime minister said that the European Union wants to seize Russian assets, as otherwise it would lead to the collapse of several European governments.

The day before, Orbán said that if Budapest's position on the seizure of Russian assets is ignored, Hungary will appeal to the European Court of Justice the next day. He specified that if Moscow challenges the possible seizure of its assets in court, it will certainly win; it is only a matter of time.
